30 August- 8 September

Bound collates the work of six female-identifying artists responding to the central theme of the female body as a continual political site. Comprised of newly made 2D and 3D works, this exhibition explores biological and social restrictions imposed on female bodies and ongoing struggles for an equal, respectful world for women. Local issues such as the recent diminution of reproduction health access in Tasmania, as well as heated global debates around bodily autonomy and equality are emblematic of a broader social attitude that has persisted for millennia: that women are responsible for policing their own bodies, and that a failure to do so should be punished. Anxieties around biological difference and choice demonstrate continuing inequality faced by women in the contemporary age. All artists contributing to Bound are under the age of 30 and as such are intimately familiar with these ongoing social issues
